Brit Flick Twosome: Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa’s Post Nuclear Anxiety; Wuthering Heights Gets a Racially Charged Edge

There is nothing like the Cuban Missile Crisis and a good dose of post nuclear anxiety to break up a good blossoming lesbian relationship– in the trailer for Ginger and Rosa.  It’s Sally Potter’s crafty way of showing that politics and art don’t mix into a satisfying whole.   Ellie Fanning tries on a British accent and Christina Hendricks as the mother of one of the title characters  provides a luscious distraction from all the pontificating and the gloom  and doom.

Andrea Arnold’s new version of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights gives the story a racial edge.  Heathcliffe (Jason Howson) is black and Catherine (Kaya Scoldelario) is white privileged.  Arnold’s  impressionistic tinge  allows the emotional elements of the story greater force.   If the movie has the raw elemental power of the poster (above) it should be a winner.

  1. Having seen Lawrence Olivia (Classic Best Actor) and Timothy Dalton (Sexier and Better Looking Than Anyone)in this role, this cannot possibly live up to its predicessors.

    Good review though.
