And who will play second fiddle. The great second fiddle of movies Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays the actual second fiddle whining and wanting to be first. Hoffman is at his best when he is at his most offended, so this performance is guaranteed to be a stand-out. Whether the Academy notices Hoffman’s “The Master” or “A late Quartet” will be the mystery question.
